BlueWise Marine is involved in an industrial research project lead by Ampyx Power Ireland Ltd. and funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland through the Research Development & Demonstration Funding Programme 2019. This industrial research project aims to prepare the offshore demonstration of the Ampyx Power, Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) prototype AP-3 (150kW) in 2022/2023. It will provide insight into the technical, financial, logistical and legal constraints to execute this first of a kind offshore demonstration.
The primary objective of the “Offshore Airborne Wind Energy demonstrator” project is to research the potential for an offshore demonstration of AWE in Ireland, resulting in:
- Site selection reports, based on detailed review of environmental, geotechnical, met-ocean, aviation, marine archaeological and geophysical data;
- Design, test (tank test) and validation of the offshore platform;
- An execution plan for the offshore demonstration, including high level contracts for installation, operation and a full permit assessment.
The second objective is to provide insights into the market potential for floating airborne wind energy in Ireland, resulting from a detailed analysis of system and operational costs and energy output in local circumstances.
